Foxcom Introduces Apogee SNMP Management System at Satellite 2006

Open Platform Offers Forward and Backward Compatibility to Sat-Light IFLs

Washington D.C. 7 February 2006 Foxcom, a leading manufacturer of RF-2-Fiber Satellite Interfacility links (IFLs) is introducing its Apogee SNMP Management System at Satellite 2006 in Washington D.C. from 7 -9 February 2006. Apogee joins Foxcoms family of fiber optic products offering SNMP standards based monitoring and control (M&C) functionality to the Sat-Light family of products.

The Apogee platform is built upon a hardware card which fits in the Sat-Light 3U shelf and on-board firmware, web server and Graphical User Interface (GUI). The new card, or the 2050, provides SNMP v.2 traps for RF and Optical faults for all Sat-Light modules. Via a click of the mouse, RF input/output power, faults and fault logs are displayed by the GUI. In addition, the user can control the newly released 2040 1:1 Redundancy Switch via the GUI and monitor switch status i.e. local remote or primary or redundant path.

Apogees open architecture and MIBs provide two methods for system monitoring and control. For large organizations with off-the-shelf Network Management System (NMS), such as HP OpenView or custom NMS, Apogee offers traditional MIBs readable by the end users system. For users without such systems but who desire SNMP M&C, Apogee offers a web based GUI accessible via any web browser with full functionality.

We believe that our platform offers end users the widest selection of monitoring options said Sean Gordon, Vice President of Marketing. With the many wireless devices now available and WiFi hotspots everywhere, system engineers can get real time access to their systems health virtually anywhere on earth added Gordon. Legacy Support

The real exciting feature of Apogee is support for Sat-Light links in the field. Apogee has a data base of legacy Sat-Light products and via an administrative screen, the user can populate a virtual shelf viewable via the GUI which mirroring the users actual rack of Sat-Light products. The users shelf of legacy Sat-Light equipment is now SNMP supported. Foxcom took a position that we wanted to introduce an SNMP system for new products without orphaning the thousands of IFLs in earth stations around the world said, Kevin Kirkland, Vice President of Sales. We felt a responsibility to our loyal customer base and therefore Apogee offers backward compatibility added Kirkland.
