Foxcom announces the release of the Fiber Optic Return Path for SDTVplus Broadband Distribution System at IBC.

Maintaining Leadership in Distribution Broadband Bundled Services in Multi-dwelling Unit (MDU) or Gated Community Environments

Jerusalem, Israel and Princeton, NJ, Septemeber, 2003-Foxcom, Ltd, a leading manufacturer of broadband fiber optic systems, is announcing the release of its SDTVplus Fiber Optic Return Path System at International Broadcasting Convention show (IBC) 2003 in Amsterdam, Holland, September 12-16 2003 in booth 5.110.

SDTVplus Return Path
As cable operators and service providers launch more interactive services, the need for a cost effective fiber deep solution for the Multi-Dwelling Unit (MDU) environment becomes critical. Foxcom, in keeping pace with the changing needs of this environment, is releasing an optical return path to its highly successful SDTVplus distribution system. "Private Cable Operators (PCOs) and CATV Multiple System Operators (MSOs) serve the vast majority of MDUs in North America. Providing a two-way fiber optic based infrastructure for high speed internet and interactive TV will help reduce reverse path noise and eliminate the need to deploy additional coax. The operational and economic benefits of such an infrastructure will be considerable to both the property owners and service providers "said Jack Hotz, CEO Foxcom.

The return path system technology is based on Foxcom's field proven professional Sat-Light™ series of fiber optic links. The fiber return path solution will be incorporated into Foxcom's SDTVplus fiberoptic distribution platform which currently offers up to 2.4 GHz of bandwidth delivering CATV, local UHF/VHF TV and cable-modem based internet services (54 - 862 MHz), and DTH/DBS (950?2400 MHz). At the property head-end, the SDTVplus transmitter combines these multiple signals, converts them to optics, and transmits them to various receivers (nodes). The new return path transmitter will be housed in these receivers, operating within a frequency range of 5 - 42 MHz. The return path signal will be transmitted to a modular rack-mount return path receiver situated at the property head-end up to 2 kilometers away.

SDTVplus was the first fiber optic distribution system to deliver simultaneously DBS, local off-air TV and high-speed internet services to the MDU. It remains the system of choice for consumer multimedia service providers seeking single wire architecture for MDUs and gated communities. The SDTVplus platform helps keep equipment, installation, and maintenance costs down while offering an infrastructure that can support current as well as future communication needs of the PCO or MSO.
